Zoom aims to make remote collaboration more fun with new tools

Zoom is adding a host of new tools and capabilities to its video conferencing platform. The company aims to increase remote collaboration and engagement for increased productivity while keeping meetings fun.

There’s a new Collaborate mode that makes the screen sharing model on Zoom more interactive. The feature allows hosts to start collaborative experiences for any application, allowing participants to interact with it remotely. The host’s app view will be instantly visible to all attendees, similar to a split-screen view. This allows them to preview the app experience before joining the meeting.

Collaboration mode on Zoom will work on all browsers. The company showcased some examples of how this feature will help improve your team’s productivity. You can use the Miro whiteboard app to co-create remotely in real time. Pre-made templates and other visual tools like sticky notes and diagrams will enable a seamless collaborative workspace.

Speaking of co-authoring, the Coda app for Zoom will allow teammates to work on the same document in collaboration mode. “Rather than presenting forcollaborate with,” says the company.

Zoom is also adding Playco’s #AskAway app which brings a fun element to meetings. It is a game application that asks random questions about your colleagues. The game is played in rounds, with each round putting one participant in the hot seat. The Funtivity by Hermis app also improves employee engagement with fun, bite-sized activities. The MURAL collaborative intelligence platform is another application that will support collaboration mode on Zoom. We expect the company to add more such apps in the future.

Breakout rooms on Zoom are getting more creative

Zoom already lets you break large meetings into smaller groups with its Breakout Rooms feature. The company is now making these rooms more engaging and productive with new creative tools. The Welo application will virtually replicate the desktop environment in a metaverse-like environment. You will be able to create an avatar, embed your favorite tools and embed key information in rooms, which will be visible to all participants in the room. When you enter a new room, everyone can see, creating a “more human experience”.

twine for Zoom is a breakout room management app that allows hosts to quickly create new rooms with custom rules. It also allows you “to alternate between timed and consecutive breakouts, chat between rooms, keep chats after the call, assign activities, and monitor progress.”

Finally, Funtivity by Hermis also offers specialized activities for Breakout Rooms. These activities and games can be practiced individually or in teams. According to Zoom, this app is “perfect for new hire onboarding, hands-free, employee training, customer sessions, and more.”

If Zoom is your go-to video conferencing app for remote collaborations, new features and app updates should be available from the Apps tab of the platform. You can also download Zooms apps from its App Marketplace.
