Lake County Music Guide 6.2.22 – The Bloom

As I predicted last week, after Memorial Weekend, the floodgates have opened and live music is going to happen here at The LC. I won’t hear too many complaints from now on about nothing to do in Lake County. And every week after that, we should see something new happen that only adds to the stressful situation of making a decision on where to go. There’s just going to be too many fun things happening this week, Maynard! And I mean it, peanut! Here is the guide to live music for the week of 6/2 to 6/6…

First, I want to start by telling you about an important and exciting event that will take place on Sunday afternoon. Cache Creek Winery, (a great venue for live music and wine), east of Clearlake Oaks, is hosting an event featuring legendary lawyer, activist, and guitarist, Barry Melton and his band from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The cost will be $20 at the door (no advance sale…) and the concert is a benefit for our local radio station, KPFZ 88.1 FM – Lake County Community Radio. Barry Melton was the guitarist for popular 60s band Country Joe and the Fish and later with The Dinosaurs, and his current lineup of legendary musicians includes Peter Albin of Big Brother and the Holding Co, Roy Blumenfeld of The Blues Project, ( can you hear the crowd screaming already?), and Banana from The Youngbloods – plus a little help from their friends, special guest and top saxophonist Nancy Wright and the inclusion of a superb guitarist (and longtime friend date), David Aguilar, (THIS GUY IS SO GOOD!). This should be a must-attend event for anyone with a big love for mid-to-late ’60s San Francisco music, and with this line-up of excellent musicians, expect nothing less than a stellar performance. On a more personal note, Barry and I use the same dog park in Clearlake where our dogs have a special back-sniffing relationship. Of course, Barry and I tend to be a bit more dignified…

On Thursday in Kelseyville, the Saw Shop Public House will present THE VOICE! By that I mean, Tony Neves, lead singer of the Funky Dozen, 6-9 p.m. Come get a glimpse of what he’s up to when the BIG JAM takes place on Sunday, (more on that later…). Great singer, great food and a full bar – YOWZAH! On Sunday morning, a great brunch awaits you with the music of Randy Hood from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. You’ll love his music, just like the brunch!

Mike Garniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for over 40 years. He paid his dues into a strong Sonoma County music scene in the 80s and 90s, then DJed for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his 26-year job , because he recognized a growing local music. stage, he decided to dedicate his time to performing live music again. He never looked back. With his regular band, Dr. Groove, he played lead guitar for local bands (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, CAM Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travellers). He has played acoustic guitar at some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers markets and art galleries. He is also a semi-regular supporting various local open mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has also recorded original demos for other performers. For the past three years, he has posted a local music guide on Facebook called Lake County Music Guide.
