Emily Brontë Summer Birthday

Saturday July 30, 2022

Join us in celebrating Emily Brontë’s birthday on Saturday, July 30. From 11pm to 4pm we host many exciting events, from the Clothing Swap Workshop to the Lino Print Workshop. Get off at Haworth and immerse yourself in the creative world of the Brontë, listening to lectures and learning new skills (and having a slice of cake too!). ALL DAY, The Big Bronte Clothes Swap Main Old School Room, Free Admission Following the success of our first clothes swap in March, we are hosting our second clothes swap of the year. The clothes swap will take place in the Old School Room, where Charlotte and Emily Brontë taught sewing. There will be tables, rails and hangers ready for you to bring in your unwanted clothes and accessories, and throughout the afternoon you can swap, swap and donate clothes, finding treasures in the “ trash” of another person. Beth Turner-Pembleton will join us in running a Fix Up Corner where you can come ask for advice and learn creative ways to revitalize clothes. With free tea, coffee and plant-based cakes, the Big Brontë Clothes Swap is an afternoon where the community comes together. This event is free, just bring some clothes and get ready to trade! 12pm-2pm, Lino Print Workshop Little Old School Room, £10 Join Beccy Powell from @cutandcurve for a guided lino print and sculpting workshop. Cut and create your own linocut design and walk away with bright, bold prints. Be inspired by the work of Emily Bronte and have the chance to print on old Wuthering Heights pages. To book a ticket, please use the online booking form on the left hand side, or call 01535 640192 or email via [email protected] The other activities of the day are free, so come to those before or after! 2:30pm-3:15pm, Poetry by Emily Bronte – talk and performance Small old school hall, free admission We will delve into the world of Emily Bronte’s poetry, discussing the words she uses and the images they conjure up. At the end of the lecture, we will be joined by Beth Turner-Pembleton for a short extract of spoken word drawing on notions of identity through clothing, memory and mending.
